Tanja Stupar Trifunović was born in 1977 in Zadar, Croatia, and currently resides in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has made significant contributions to literature, with her works being awarded and translated into numerous languages including English, German, French, Polish, Slovenian, Danish, Swedish, Macedonian, Czech, Hungarian, Bulgarian, and Spanish.

Tanja has published seven volumes of poetry. Her book “O čemu misle varvari dok doručkuju” (What Do Barbarians Think About While Having Breakfast) was shortlisted for the ProCredit Bank Literature Award for East and Southeast Europe and earned her a one-month residency in Vienna, Austria. Another of her poetry collections, “Glavni junak je čovjek koji se zaljubljuje u nesreću” (The Main Protagonist is The Man Who Falls in Love With Misfortune), received the “Fra Grgo Martić” Literary Award for the best poetry volume in 2009. Her collection “Razmnožavanje domaćih životinja” (Reproduction of The Domestic Animals) was honored with both the “Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja” Award and the “Risto Ratković” regional Award for poetry. In 2023, her poetry book “Zmijštak” won the “Vasko Popa” Award, one of the most prestigious honors for poetry in the Serbian language.

Tanja has also published three novels. Her debut novel, “Satovi u majčinoj sobi” (Clocks in My Mother’s Room), earned her the European Prize for Literature (EUPL) in 2016. Her second novel, “Otkako sam kupila labuda” (Since I Bought A Swan), was recognized with the “Zlatni Suncokret” Award for the best Serbian language novel published in 2019. Her latest novel, “Duž oštrog noža leti ptica” (Along a Sharp Knife a Bird Flies), published in 2024, was shortlisted for the NIN Award, the most prestigious award for novels written in the Serbian language.

Beyond her poetry and novels, Tanja Stupar Trifunović has been a prolific literary critic, contributing to daily newspapers and periodicals. She served as an editor for “Putevi” – Magazine for literature, art, and culture, as well as for “Bosanska vila.” Her works have been featured in anthologies and selections of poetry and prose in Bosnia and Herzegovina and internationally.
